Level 1 Class – Mondays

Welcome to the formal program of improvisational training! Whether you want to perform, be better at team work or presentation for your job, or just be more engaged with your friends and family, this is the place to start!

In this course, we’ll jump into the beautiful world of “Yes, And” and study beginning fundamentals like basic games and the advantages of collaborative group work. We’ll enjoy exercises, talk basic theory, dive into basic scenework, push through object & environment, and establish the importance of relationship and truth onstage – and have an incredible amount of fun, getting away with pretending as adults.

6-Weeks
Mondays from 6:30-9:00pm
Mar 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Apr 6

Level 2 Class – Mondays

In Level 2, we will begin using the idea of group play. Whether it is via shortform games (playing with pattern, heightening, pouncing on the fun), longform openings (group work, exploration of one theme together), or scenes (game of the scene), we will understand the importance of utilizing our power together and play with rather than against. Character work, both by mirroring and complementing, is also pushed in this level.

Pre-requisite: Level One

Mondays from 6:30-9:00pm
Mar 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Apr 6

HERE the Musical is a feat of improvisation – a two person, fully improvised musical play. In the HERE the Musical 2/29 show, the players get one suggestion to inspire theme through an opening number, create characters and storylines inspired by the theme, and effortlessly weave the strings together to discover one piece. Not one ounce of music has been pre-conceived before the show begins. Music improvised by David Schmoll!

Tara DeFrancisco and Rance Rizzutto began touring this show well before moving to Columbus to start The Nest Theatre. They have toured this show to 60+ cities in 22+ countries! Bring your friends out to experience HERE for yourself.

Your secrets…our show! The Anonymous 2/28 show takes true, pre-written, anonymous personal stories submitted from our cast & guests, then those stories lead to conversation and comedic improvisation done by the cast. Randomly drawn from the big board, the cast has seen none of the stories prior to the conversations or improvisation – unless it’s (dramatic pause)… their own.

For improv connoisseurs, it’s a slice of hit shows Storyteller/Living Room, part ComedySportz Blind Date, and part “Mortified”; For those just looking for a great time – This show promises something for everyone.

Cast: Andrew Johnson, Carolyn Pierre-Louis, Michael Tonovitz, Jonathan DeMuth, Tara DeFrancisco, Robin Starr, Rance Rizzutto, John Kuhn, Ella Palardi, Wendy Korwin

ComedySportz is arguably the most famous shortform comedy show in the world. The ComedySportz 2/28 match features two teams of improvisational performers (players) competing in various improv games and performing scenes, with audience members judging the results and awarding points. In every match, a CSz referee monitors the action, awarding points and administering fouls as necessary. The flavor is somewhat like the television show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, though ComedySportz precedes that show’s debut by over 4 years. CSz is a high-energy hilarious experience, and appropriate for all audiences – all ages, all welcome.
