Level 2 Class – Tuesdays

In Level 2, we will begin using the idea of group play. Whether it is via shortform games (playing with pattern, heightening, pouncing on the fun), longform openings (group work, exploration of one theme together), or scenes (game of the scene), we will understand the importance of utilizing our power together and play with rather than against. Character work, both by mirroring and complementing, is also pushed in this level.

Pre-requisite: Level One

Tuesdays from 6:30-9:00pm
Apr 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21

Level 1 Class – Mondays

Welcome to the formal program of improvisational training! Whether you want to perform, be better at team work or presentation for your job, or just be more engaged with your friends and family, this is the place to start!

In this course, we’ll jump into the beautiful world of “Yes, And” and study beginning fundamentals like basic games and the advantages of collaborative group work. We’ll enjoy exercises, talk basic theory, dive into basic scenework, push through object & environment, and establish the importance of relationship and truth onstage – and have an incredible amount of fun, getting away with pretending as adults.

Mondays from 6:30-9:00pm
Apr 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20

Level 3 Class – Wednesdays

Level 3 digs deep into scene work. The relationship between the characters on stage is the most important part of the scene. Get ready to focus on two-person scenes and explore multiple ways to lock into the heart of things.

Pre-requisite: Level Two
Wednesdays from 6:30-9:00pm
Apr 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15

Player’s Nightmare 3/30 8:00pm

March 30th 8:00pm $10 online*/$12 at the door

The Nest is proud to produce a beautiful feat with collaboration from the talented actors in the city of Columbus, for one night only.

The Actors (Actors Theatre, MadLab) will prepare a scene from any script they like ahead of time, but the Improvisers (Nest CBus, touring company) won’t know what the script or scene is. Two will be matched up at random and perform together onstage – one with a strict piece, one without, but in the same scene. Beauty, art, and comedy ensue.

Produced exclusively in CBus at The Nest, all to promote many kinds of art and cross-pollination of talents. You are Cordially Invited: Come see the feat, one night only.

ComedySportz is arguably the most famous shortform comedy show in the world. The ComedySportz match features two teams of improvisational performers (players) competing in various improv games and performing scenes, with audience members judging the results and awarding points. In every match, a CSz referee monitors the action, awarding points and administering fouls as necessary. The flavor is somewhat like the television show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, though ComedySportz precedes that show’s debut by over 4 years.
