Take your improv skills to the next level with Musical Improv!
The main goal of this intensive is to let you comfortably improvise and create music scenically without relying on math, formulas, or charts to bog you down. Put your trust in heart, emotion, your partner, and your gut! Time will be spent on music, and there will be an assumption of basic scenework and editing skills from the student.
About your teachers: Nest Theatre owners Tara DeFrancisco and Rance Rizzutto performed improv for over 15 years in Chicago, and travel the world teaching and performing (at last count pre-pandemic) in 80+ cities through 24+ countries! In addition to founding two beloved and thriving artistic community spaces (The Nest and The Improv Retreat), they tour as headliners all over the world in the hit “HERE: The (Improvised) Musical”, defrancisCo, and the adored Saturday night house team iO Chicago’s Chaos Theory. They are sought out for their breadth of professional skill, passion + compassion, ethical brave space design of creative homes, and their ability to instill fun into the process while symbiotically challenging students with high-level concepts. In addition to their lauded work *onstage* for iO Theater, Second City touring company/theater/theatricals, and various ComedySportz stages, Tara + Rance created curriculum in the main class levels of those schools. They also taught Summer Intensives at iO Chicago for a decade, and solely designed the challenging and lauded curriculum of the Advanced Summer Intensives at iO. Their musical experience, both from HERE (and groups like Baby Wants Candy and The DelTones) will be yours.
Pre-requisite: at least two levels of improv classes from anywhere. You should have the basics, and some focused learning on scenework.
The Nest is a registered Safe/Brave Space in the state of Ohio and we amplify underserved people in the arts, including BIPOC, LGBTIQ, PwD, those over 65, and Veterans.
