Del Close Night 4/13 7:30pm
$10 online*/ $11 at the door if not sold out
Del Close was instrumental in the expansion and growth of improvisation. Specifically, longform: one suggestion informing the entire piece. Charna Halpern was running Improv Olympix (soon to be known as iO) and reached out to Del after hearing he had departed Second City. Del believed that improv was it’s own art form…Second City believed it was a tool to use for crafting written sketches and nothing more. Del Close wanted to be able to work on what was known as an unplayable form: The Harold and agreed to join Charna if he could teach that form. The rest is history.
Del also was responsible for a lot of the “spooky” improv forms. TONIGHT we bring you a few: The Bat, The Invocation, and a longform set inspired by something special…
Nest owners Tara DeFrancisco and Rance Rizzutto trained, performed, and taught at iO in Chicago for years before moving to Columbus (Tara’s hometown). Charna Halpern gave them Del’s Word Ball: an orb filled with thousands of plastic slips with words to be used as suggestions. This improv relic will be used in this show!
If you’re super short on cash, we’ve included a half off ticket. Students may use their student IDs to attend for free.
This will be LIVE at our new location
