Close Quarters (Chicago, 1997-on) is a longform improvisation that focuses on two parts – a collection of scenes that take place in adjacent spaces over the same period of time, and effects those can have on characters as the show reveals more about itself. We’ll do the very-basics of this complex form over the course of two evenings (trying something called “Stone’s Throw”) to attempt the fundamentals.
Heighten characters by engaging, think adjacent space when staging…
environments are rich with sound, time collapses turning round…
when throwing forward sounds as cues, a later payoff oft ensues…
Repeat some scenes where they’ve begun, If all else fails, then just have fun! – Gregoropoulos
